Amendment to Rule 3.O8 (a)
Dear Commissioners:
Per our conversation at the November Lst 2OL7 special Civil Service Commission
meeting, I have reached out to neighboring cities in regard to what types of
information are brought forward to their respective Commissions. I received the
following:
Citv of Auburn, WA:
-only report out updated eligibility lists, job openings, or promotional exams.
They also report out regarding anyth¡ng that's a "one off" from their usual Civil
Service process
City of Federal Way, WA:
-reports testing/ recruitment processes for entry/ lateral officer, promotional and
non-commission positions and # of vacancies/ resignations/retirements
Citv of Renton, WA:
-The PD reports promotions and demotions to the Commission. We also provide
acting or temporary assignments. We do not provide them with role assignment
changes. We would also provide them with information regarding any extended,
unpaid leave but not any other leaves of absence.
W¡th your input, I'd like to amend/revise this rule so that we are bringing
forward items that require your attention and, at times, action, I propose the
following language revision and that the revision be immediate:
3.08 Reports from Chiefs. The Chiefs of their respective departments are responsible for keeping the
Commission informed of the employment status of civil service employees including:
a. Every appointment, transfer, promotion, demotion, reduction, layoff, reinstatement,
suspension, extended leaves of absence without pay, return to duty, ase, ignmenf
assignments lasting a duration of six (6) consecutive months or more, change of position
within a classification or within an assignment title, or change of title.
b. Every separation of employment with the City.
c. Every refusal or failure to accept promotion from a promotional eligibility list.
Respectfu lly su bm itted,
Natalie Winecka
