accept consent items A-T. Commissioner Thomas seconded; motion passed
3-O.

A. Memo dated April 20, 20L7 requesting to test for the rank of Corrections
Sergeant.
Chair Zaratkiewicz made a mot¡on to grant permission to start testing for
the rank of Corrections Sergeant. Commissioner Piecewicz seconded the
motion; motion passed 3-O.
8. For the Good of the Order
Chair Zaratkiewicz notified the other Commissioners that he would not be in
attendance at the May meeting. Commissioners Thomas and Piecewicz confirmed
that they would be in attendance.
9. Adjournment
Commissioner Thomas made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Piecewicz
seconded the motion; motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 5:40 PM.

Dear Mr. Helms;
Congratulations on being hired as a Probationary Lateral Police Officer for the Kent police
Department. We are looking forward to working with you and know that you will have a
great deal to offer the Department and the City of Kent.
This letter is to confirm our recent offer of employment. Your employment with the City
will be effective Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Upon receipt of this letter, please call Training
Sergeant Bill Blowers at (253) 856-5858 for details on your duty assignment. Also, you
have been scheduled for a new employee orientation on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:00 AM
with the benefits staff in Human Resources. Please report at 9:00 AM to the photo room
on the first floor of the Centennial Building to have your city access card photo taken prior
to your new employee orientation.
Your starting base salary as a probationary lateral police officer will be at Step D, 96,093per month. You will be provided with a bank of 40 hours of annual leave and 40 hours of
sick leave. You will be placed on probationary status for one year from your date of hire.
All other benefits will follow your union contract. Additionally, you qualify for our g10,O0O
Lateral Hiring Incentive which is payable in two payments ($5,000 on your first paycheck,
and $5,000 upon your successful completion of probation; less applicable taxes), and upon
your successful completion of probation, you are eligible for a training opportunity of your
choosing within the prescribed parameters (up to $1,000, up to one week, in-state, andjob related) to further your professional development.
If the terms of this offer of employment are acceptable to you, please so indicate by

will follow your union contract. Upon your successful completion of probation, you are
eligible for a training opportunity of your choosing within the prescribed parameters (up to
$1,000, up to one week, in-state, and job related) to further your professional
development.
