Hayley Bonsteel checked in about the submitted KBAB feedback for the Meet
Me on Meeker LUPB meeting.
The board discussed changing KBAB members. Members are rotating out and
new applications have been received. The Board can have up to 11 members.
5. Strategic Priorities
a. Current trail conditions were discussed.
Mel asked Brian Levenhagen from Parks to clean up the area of the South
277th Street trail west of the Green River footbridge.
Nick mentioned that the Regional Trail Connector had blackberries
growing out of control in a few locations between the Interurban Trail and
the West Valley Highway

Trail going under Meeker Street. However, no action was taken and he
didn’t receive comments back.

scheduled for Saturday, January 6th at 7:30 AM, meeting at the Russell Road
Park.
c. Mel suggested installing street-type signs on the Interurban Trail marking
street crossings.
d. The next KBAB meeting will be on December 18th. This meeting will be
specifically devoted to determine gaps in the bike paths at locations mainly in
the Kent Valley. Mel will provide a map that will be marked up. At this
meeting we will also focus on what our strategic plan for 2018 should be.
e. The group discussed east/west connections and north/south trails that
may include coordination with the cities of Renton and Des Moines. Possibly
reaching out to other committees who have experience with changing the
cycling footprint of a city. It was discussed by the group that a shorter
timeline approach to completing projects would be more achievable than
lumping all desires together into a very long timeframe. Focusing on the next
10 years.
f. The question came up about providing bike facilities on SR 516 west of
Washington Ave. This is a state route and would probably be a state-
sponsored project.
g. Mel mentioned that the design of the Trail on the south side of South
228th Street has a proposed ramp at West Valley Highway which is very
narrow and should be widened to better accommodate bicycle riders. Mark
Madfai will check on this.
h. Antje Kablitz, Commute Trip Reduction Coordinator, will be invited by Mark
Madfai to the KBAB meeting on January 29th to discuss her role in promoting
bicycle commuting.
6. Adjournment
At 7:00 PM, Melvin Roberts declared the meeting adjourned.
