Call to Order 2. Roll Call Council President Boyce had an excused absence. 3. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes to the agenda. 4. Approval of Minutes dated January 9, 2018 and the Special Meeting dated January 30, 2018. L. Thomas moved to approve the Public Safety Committee minutes dated January 9, 2018 and the Special Meeting dated January 30, 2018. T. Troutner seconded the motion, which passed 2-0. 5. Shots Fired Presentation – Information Only. Chief Thomas introduced King County Prosecutor Dan Carew whom provided a presentation to committee members regarding data collected from 2017 for shots fired in and around south King County. The Shots Fired project is a partnership with the south Sound Cities of Auburn, Federal Way, Renton, Tukwila and Kent Police Chiefs, the Seattle Police Department, and the King County Sheriff in conjunction with the King County Prosecutor’s office. Data highlights from 2017 include:  50 firearm homicide victims: o of that number, about 86 percent were male, o almost 50 percent were youth under 25 years of age.  214 non-fatal shooting victims (injured by a bullet but not killed): o of that number, about 81 percent were male, o almost 42 percent were under the age of 25 years of age.  674 cases of shots fired (definition includes an agency case number was generated, some indication of shots fired like casings or bullets found at the scene, property damage, or an eye witness at the scene.) Chief’s Report – Information Only. Chief Thomas supplied information on a three of topics, they are:  Chief thanked Council for approving the request to have the Police and Criminal Justice Ballot Measure, Proposition A, in the April 24, 2018 special election voter pamphlet.  Chief announced the Kent Police Community meeting “Reducing Crime and Violence in Our Neighborhood” was taking place February 13 at 6pm at the Mosaic Hills apartments. o A public discussion with the leadership of the City and Police Department on the crime, violence and community based solutions in the 108th Avenue and 240th Street “Greater McChevron Neighborhood.”  Lastly, Chief provided personnel changes, they are: o Assistant Chief Padilla is now overseeing the Patrol Division, o Assistant Chief Kammerzell is now overseeing the Investigations Division, o Sergeant Bishop now oversees the Traffic Division, and o Sergeant Schanbacher has been transferred to the training center as the new Training Sergeant. 7.
