5. Evaluate/score grant applications
The committee proceeded to discuss the grant award requests and award
amounts, without finalizing any.
accessoShoWare requested $60K, and there was concensus around that
amount
T-birds requested $63K, and this also did not generate a lot of discussion
LegoRobotics is an event for students and their families, and which promotes
STEM careers, received general strong support from both the hoteliers and
the Chamber and the City. $10K was settled on as a place holder.
The New Space Conference, which would not be held in Kent, but at the
Hyatt in Renton, received more close questioning for that reason. However,
strong advocacy for the event by city staff, and others, centers on the
elevation of the Kent brand, and strengthening the association of Kent and
Kent employers as crucial and prominent in the New Space employment
sector. City of Kent sponsorship with LTAC monies can be seen as a good
investment, with ancillary events to the conference planned within Kent
proper. $30K was set as a placeholder for this request.
Economic Development Business Recruitment Website - $20K Place Holder
set to continue this project.
6. Discuss Committee Membership
All members present indicated their desire to continue serving on the
committee. Andrea Keikala had departed early so was not part of that
discussion.
