BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Board Chair, Mayor Dana Ralph, board members
Sam Grubbs, Al Bond and Kim Komoto, Secretary.
STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Aaron BeMiller, Finance Director, Lavina Brennecke,
Accounting and Reporting Manager, and Susanne Shaw, Senior Financial Analyst
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 3:34 p.m., with Committee Chair Mayor Ralph
presiding.
2. Roll Call

3. Changes to the Agenda
Sam Grubbs moved to approve the agenda as presented, seconded by Al Bond.
The motion passed unanimously with a vote of 5-0.
4. Approval of Minutes, dated October 17, 2017
Sam Grubbs moved to approve the minutes dated October 17, 2017, and Al Bond
seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously with a vote of 5-0.
5. Financial Report
Lavina Brennecke, Accounting & Reporting Manager, provided details regarding the
cash and investments as of December 31, 2017, and reviewed the 5-year
comparison and breakdown of current investments.
Lavina also provided details regarding the statement of revenues and expenses for
the year ending December 31, 2017.
Sam Grubbs moved to approve the financial report ending December 31, 2017,
seconded by Al Bond.
The motion passed unanimously with a vote of 5-0.

Authority COLA Increase – Information Only
Susanne Shaw provided details regarding the benefit adjustment to reflect the
Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority COLA increase.

Cash & Investments - March 31, 2018
The Fire Relief & Pension Fund owns a percentage of all of the City investments. These
are included on the Cash & lnvestments chart as Other f nvestments. They earn from
.84%to2.94% and have a range of maturity dates from L month to 5 years.
The FR&P Fund also owns the one Federal Home Loan Mortgage investment. This is an
amazing investment story. The original cost of this investment on 4/tO/1987 was
s65,937.50. When it matures on tL/29/I9 it will be worth silvl. wow.
Statement of Revenues and Expenses - March 31. 2018
lnterest income for the quarter was $5,483, which is higher than interest income for last
year at this time. lnterest rates continue to benefit the FR&P fund.
Pension expense and health insurance costs totaled 596,420 for this quarter. These total
costs have not changed much over the last 4 years.
