Arts Commission Minutes Commissioners: Chair Suzanne Smith, Vice Chair Dan Cox, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts, Secretary Christy Caravaglio, Secretary Linda Mackintosh, Martha Cunningham, Bayard DuBois, Tonya Goodwillie, Susan Machler, Colleen Maloney, Hal O’Brien, Michael Taskey, Sandi Westman, Susan Bagrationoff (alternate) July 10, 2018 5:30 p.m. Item Description Action Speaker Time 1. June Minutes YES Chair Smith Taskey made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Caravaglio seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 5. Treasurer’s Report NO Staff Billerbeck 6. Performing Arts Committee Staff Billerbeck A. Summer Concert Series NO -Promo: Posters and flyers distributed -Volunteers: Commissioners encouraged to attended concerts 7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee Staff Billerbeck A. Kent Creates: -On the Water voting – City web site security NO certificate expired. Voting will resume when updated. -New exhibit: Vacations and Summer Celebrations, July – August -Policies regarding winning frequency YES Staff presented a policy with added language that only one entry per user is eligible for an award per exhibit, and that users are only eligible for an honorarium award every six months. Taskey made a motion to approve the changes. DuBois seconded and the motion carried unanimously. There was also discussion about limiting the number of entries per exhibit to five. Staff will check to see if it is possible for the site to limit entries per user. C. City Art Plan -Traffic Control box call – deadline July 31 NO -Morrill Meadows art project update NO Staff is working on artist contract. -Maintenance: WATER, Barbara Grygutis, East Hill Park NO Sculpture has been removed and is stored at East Hill Maintenance shops awaiting further assessment. Kent Banners, Koryn Rolstad: No update NO 8. General updates/other business Staff Billerbeck 15 A. Give Me Culture applications YES -Eunice Kim: Taskey made a motion to not fund this application. Cunningham seconded. The motion carried with Maloney voting “nay.” -Kent Youth and Family Services: Taskey made a motion to fully fund the application. Philpotts seconded and the motion carried unanimously. B. Kent School District/Arts Education – None NO 9. Next Meeting – Sept. 11, 5:30 pm, Centennial 401 NO 10. Adjournment
