May Minutes YES Chair Smith Cox made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Taskey seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 5. Treasurer’s Report NO Staff Billerbeck 6. Performing Arts Committee Staff Billerbeck A. Summer Concert Series NO -Promotional materials are being printed -Volunteers – Commissioners are encouraged to attend 7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee Staff Billerbeck A. Kent Creates NO -On the Water: 34 submissions to date -Policies regarding winning frequency: Staff will create written draft of suggested policy considerations for review at July meeting. B. City Art Plan -Traffic Control boxes – Dedication recap NO -Morrill Meadows art project: YES Machler made a motion to approve the Selection Panel’s recommendation of Clark Wiegman as the artist for the parcourse project. Mackintosh seconded and the motion carried unanimously. -Maintenance: WATER, Barbara Grygutis, East Hill Park NO Salvage scheduled for June 16. Summer Art Exhibit/Purchase Awards YES -Mackintosh made a motion to approve the Purchase Jury’s recommendations and accept the artworks into the City collection. DuBois seconded and the motion carried unanimously. -The Commission discussed the Facebook dialogue and employee complaint around two pieces in the show that have generated some racial controversy. The Commission unanimously agreed that they stand behind the policies that guided artwork selection and support the art and artists of the pieces. 8. General updates/other business Staff Billerbeck A. Give Me Culture application: Thriving Artists YES Cox made a motion to approve the grant application in full ($1,000). Taskey seconded and the motion carried unanimously. B. WA Open Government Trainings Act NO C. Kent School District/Arts Education – NO Informational update on advocacy efforts 9.
