Board members present: Cesar Rangel Yusuf Bashir, Davies Chirwa, Marvin Eckfeldt, Sara Franklin-
Phillips, Norma Maldonado, Miszanur Rahman, Vaivao Semisi-Tupou, Ted Schwarz, Tanya Medina, Lelei
Masina.
Meeting called to order at 6:30 p.m.
Presentation by Mizan:
Our board member Mizan gave a presentation about his cultural background as an immigrant to this
country from Bangladesh.
o Population of 163 million people
o 88% of the population identify as Muslim
o Many engineering professors around the world come from Bangladesh
He spoke about the history of Bangladesh and the historic and current conflicts that exist in the
region.
Mizan also highlighted various entertainers and music from his country
Strategy Session:
The board took the remainder of the meeting to talk about 2019 goals and priorities.
The board mentioned that they would like to meet with the City Council and the Mayor more often.
They want to be able to convey their ideas and priorities.
The group also wanted to have a facebook page where they could add information about the work
that they are conducting. They want to also be able to add pictures.
The board also wants to know what they city’s legislative priorities are and would like a presentation
from someone at the city.
The board also wants to have a trifold with information about the board that they can then take to
community meetings.
A Cultural Communities Board logo was requested. The logo could then be used on a table cloth and
banner that they could use for outreach purposes.
