4. Welcome
Chair Rangel opened the meeting by welcoming the board members and other
participants and by thanking Kent Covenant Church for the dinner they provided.
5. Reviewed minutes
Chair moves to approve minutes, Ted seconds. Minutes approved.
6. Announcements
Uriel announced that there is interest in using the under our skin videos by the
Seattle times to provide a workshop in partnership with King County Library and
the Neighborhoods program.
7. Kent Covenant Discussion
Kent Cultural Communities Board Meeting May 22, 2018

We were welcomed by the Pastor and he talked about the gentlemen who cooked
the dinner for us. Both of the men were refugees and had started a congregation
within Kent Covenant Church for in language services. The pastor explained that
many people from different kinds of cultural backgrounds attended the church. The
conversation then turned to how the Church can be more welcoming to every
community.
Board members shared that they felt very welcomed and explained that the Church
was already doing some of the important inclusion work needed to make everyone
feel safe and welcome.
The board chair was asked to talk a little about the board and the work that was
being planned. He talked about the new subcommittees that had been created.
Every board member was part of at least one subcommittee that would look into
being more involved in specific issues around the community like education,
housing, homelessness.
The conversation then turned to the monthly board member presentations. Each
board member was asked if they could make a brief presentation during dinner
about their own cultural backgrounds and history. Yusuf asked if he could present
at the next board meeting.
