Place: Kent City Hall: Mayor’s office
Attending: Rand Al Hammadi, Yusuf Bashir, Marvin Eckfeldt, Norma Maldonado,
Mizanur Rahman, Cesar Rangel, Ta Kwe Say, Vaivao Semisi-Tupou, Ted Schwarz
Absent: Sara Franklin-Phillips, Shanrkeep Kaur Shoker, Sonia Morales, Samiha
Bhuiyan, Marwa Almusawi, Marvin Eckfeldt
1. Call to order
Meeting was called to order at 6:31pm
2. Roll call
Chair took roll call. See attending and absent list above.
3. Changes to the agenda
Chair asked if there are any changes to the agenda. No changes.
4. Welcome
Chair welcomed the board and thanked them for their time and dedication to this
group.
5. Review minutes
Minutes from prior meeting were reviewed. Motion to approve the minutes by Chair,
seconded by vice-chair Mizan.
6. Announcements
No new announcements.

7. Subcommittees/Meeting frequency
Board members broke into the subcommittees created during last months meeting.
Here is the list of the board members and the subcommittees they chose to be a
part of.
Education Police Housing/Employment
Yusuf Mizan Ta
Mizan Simisi Ted
Simisi Sara Rand
Norma
Emergency Response Team
Marwa
Ted
Satwinder
Cesar
The discussion in each one of the subcommittees revolved around the frequency of
meetings for each group. Each one of the Committees also looked into what their
goals for each committee would be and tasks were assigned to each member of the
subcommittees.
Each group meet for 60 minutes.
Subcommittees then shared with one another what their conversations were about.
Education: Yusuf and Mizan both shared that they are part of a community group
that is led by the Kent School district. They would like to see more collaboration
between the city and the district. Their goal is to use their participation in both
boards to ask for more partnerships.
Police: Mizan and Sara both shared that they are members of the Police
Department’s Diversity Task Force. They shared that they would continue to

participate in the diversity task force and provide an update to the board on what
was discussed during those meetings.
Housing/Employment: Ta and Ted mentioned that they had not come to a
consensus in their group about what their goals would be. A housing plan for the
city was discussed, but they needed more time to figure out what their goals should
be.
Emergency Response team: They all agreed that they would like to be notified
whenever there is an emergency that requires an equitable perspective. They did
not want to meet on a regular basis.
