Chief's Update Chief Padilla introduced Maureen McCaughan to speak about National Night Out This year's event had 76 neighborhoods and several more that tried to register at the last minute. It is a City-Wide event for Kent with many of the departments participating along side the Police Department. Public Works brought out 4 Vactor Trucks. A Racer emphasis was held July 26 - 28 with help from Washington State Patrol, Auburn Police Department, Renton Police Department, and Tukwila Police Department. Friday was the busiest but every day slower as the word got out about the emphasis. Citheron came out to discuss a Street Racing Pilot that was lobbied for. There is new technology that measures the sound of vehicle exhaust. A lot of the street racers have a modified exhaust system that is very loud. Looking to run the pilot next spring after complications with funding have been figured out. Red Light Cameras Update - From July 1st to August 12th there have been 3,867 violations. 3 cameras are live: - Central/James - Central/Smith - Kent Des Moines HWY/Pacific HWY 3 cameras are in the warning stage to go live mid-September: - East Valley/212th - 104th/240th - 104th/256th Tickets are $136 but it won't go on your record. The Kent Police will not be issuing tickets for being on the white line. Teen Academy being held August 13 - 15 with 16 students. They will learn about every aspect of the department. The agenda is quite extensive. The next Coffee with The Chief event is September 5 from 8:00am-9:00 at McDonalds 10125 SE 256th St Kent. 6.
