HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Service Commission - 02/25/20151 CITY OF KENT- CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES The City of Kent Civil Service Commission met for a Special Meeting on Wednesday, February 27, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. in Chambers West for the regular meeting. The following information was discussed: Members Present: Callius Zaratkiewicz Pauline Thomas Jeff Piecewicz- arranged absence Others Present: Others present. Chair Zaratkiewicz asked those present to review the ‘Accept Into Record’ items 1-12 under New Business. He then called the meeting to order at 3:50 p.m. after giving the audience time to review said items. I. COMMISSION BUSINESS: A. Action Items 1. Rule Adoption: Amendment to Lateral Corrections Officer application requirements (rule 8.04(e)) Commissioner Thomas made a motion to approve the amendment as written. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. II. HEARING: III. OLD BUSINESS: A. Accept Into Record 1. Approval of the Minutes from the January 28, 2015 Civil Service Commission meeting. Commissioner Thomas made a motion to accept into record the minutes from the January 28, 2015 Civil Service Commission meeting. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. Accept into Record 1. Letter dated February 1, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying Cmdr. Jarod Kasner that he successfully completed the probationary period and is appointed to regular employment status effective February 1, 2015. 2. Letter dated February 1, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying Sgt. Jonathan Thompson that he successfully completed the probationary period and is appointed to regular employment status effective February 1, 2015. Memo dated February 1, 2015 notifying the Commission that Assistant Chief Rafael Padilla is assigned as Acting Chief from January 31 to February 8, 2015. 4. Letter dated February 2, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying Corrections Officer Andrehas Rodriguez-Johnston that she successfully completed the probationary period and is appointed to regular employment status effective February 2, 2015. 5. Letters dated February 5, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Entry Level Police Officer candidates Paul Simbeck and Hunter Marshall notifying them that their names have been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List per their request. 6. Letter dated February 5, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to James Hill notifying him that his name has been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police Officer effective February 5, 2015. 7. Letter dated February 5, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Michael Lund notifying him that his name has been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Corrections Officer effective February 5, 2015. 8. Letters dated February 5, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Entry Level Corrections Officer candidates Jeremy Bledsaw and Joel Pimentel notifying them that their names have been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List effective February 5, 2015. 9. Letter dated February 11, 2015 from Records Supervisor Ann (Andi) Costello to Sheila Knapp advising of her intent to retire effective May 1, 2015. 10. Memo dated February 12, 2015 from Chief Thomas accepting the notice of retirement of Ann Costello effective May 1, 2015. 11. Letter dated February 16, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying Sara Wood that she successfully completed the probationary period and is appointed to regular employment status effective February 16, 2015. 12. Letter dated February 16, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Audra Stafford congratulating her on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer effective March 2, 2015. Chair Zaratkiewicz made a motion to accept into record items one through twelve. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. B. Approve into Record: 1. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Lateral/ Experienced Police Officer that was established on January 26, 2015. 2. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Entry Level Police Officer that was established on January 27, 2015. Chair Zaratkiewicz made a motion to approve into record items one and two. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. Civil Service Commission Minutes February 27, 2015 3 C. Action Items for Discussion: 1. Memo dated February 18, 2015 from Chief Thomas requesting to test for the position of Records Supervisor and that the following process and weights be approved: a. Written Exam- 70% passing score required*; final weight of 30% b. Oral Board Interview- 70% passing score required; final weight of 70% *The top 20 candidates from the written exam will be invited to the oral board process. Commissioner Thomas made a motion to approve the request to test for the position of Records Supervisor with the weights as posted. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. There being no further business, Commissioner Thomas made a motion to adjourn. Motion was moved and seconded and the meeting adjourned at 3:55 PM. The next meeting of the Civil Service Commission will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
