CITY OF KENT- CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
The City of Kent Civil Service Commission met on Wednesday, January 28, 2015,
at 5:30 p.m. in Chambers West for the regular meeting. The following information
was discussed:
Members Present: Callius Zaratkiewicz
Pauline Thomas- absent
Jeff Piecewicz
Others Present: Wayne Graff, others present.
Chair Zaratkiewicz asked those present to review the ‘Accept Into Record’ items 1-19
under New Business. He then called the meeting to order at 5:39 p.m. after giving
the audience time to review said items.

A. Accept Into Record
1. Approval of the Minutes from the December 17, 2014 Civil Service
Commission meeting.
Commissioner Piecewicz made a motion to accept into record the minutes from the
December 17, 2014 Civil Service Commission meeting. Motion was moved and
seconded; motion passed.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Accept into Record
1. Memo dated July 9, 2014 from Cmdr. Todd Durham to Ofr. Amanda Quinonez-
Ross providing her with a written reprimand regarding cases 13-14466, 14-
1367, and 14-9256.
2. Letter dated November 14, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Matthew Rausch
congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer
effective January 2, 2015.
3. Memo dated December 7, 2014 from Cmdr. Todd Durham to Ofr. Garth
Corner providing him with a written reprimand regarding an incident that
occurred on November 27, 2014.
4. Letter dated December 18, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Brian Cortinas
congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer
effective January 2, 2015.
5. Memo dated December 16, 2014 from Assistant Chief Padilla notifying the
Commission that Ofr. Rigoberto Gonzalez will be temporarily assigned as a
Recruiting Officer effective January 1, 2015.

6. Memo dated December 17, 2014 from Ofr. Jason Jones to Chief Thomas
tendering his resignation effective January 3, 2015.
7. Email dated December 17, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Jason Jones accepting
his resignation.
8. Memo dated December 19, 2014 from Assistant Chief Padilla notifying the
Commission that Sgt. Tim Ford will be assigned as Acting Commander
effective December 18-26, 2014.
9. Memo dated December 23, 2014 from Assistant Chief Padilla notifying the
Commission that Det. Tami Honda was assigned as Acting Sergeant from
September 2-12, 2014.
10. Memo dated December 29, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission
that A/C Kammerzell will be assigned as Acting Chief December 29 through
January 2, 2015.
11. Email dated December 30, 2014 from Paul Peter to Chief Thomas giving notice
of his intent to retire effective January 31, 2015.
12. Letter dated January 1, 2015 from Chief Thomas to A/C Kammerzell notifying
him that he successfully passed the probationary period and is appointed to
regular employment status as a Police Assistant Chief effective January 1,
2015.
13. Letter dated January 1, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Cmdr. Todd Durham
notifying him that he successfully passed the probationary period and is
appointed to regular employment status as a Police Commander effective
January 1, 2015.
14. Memo dated January 5, 2015 from Chief Thomas accepting the resignation of
Paul Peter effective January 31, 2015.
15. Memo dated January 6, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission
that Ofr. Jonathan Rausch will be assigned to SWAT effective January 6, 2015.
16. Memo dated January 7, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission
that Cmdr. Tracey Church will be assigned as Acting Assistant Chief effective
January 22 through February 1, 2015.
17. Letter dated January 10, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Crystal Sundquist
notifying her that she successfully passed the probationary period and is
appointed to regular employment status as a Police Records Specialist
effective January 10, 2015.
18. Memo dated January 13, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission of
who will be acting Assistant Chief while A/C Kammerzell is on military leave
from January 19-30, 2015.
19. Memo dated January 21, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission
that Ofr. Kevin Eades will be assigned as Acting Sergeant from February 3-27,
2015.
Commissioner Piecewicz had some clarifying questions regarding items #1 and #3.
There being no further questions or clarifications, Chair Zaratkiewicz made a motion
to accept into record items one through nineteen. Motion was moved and seconded;
motion passed.
B. Approve into Record:
There were items to approve into record.

C. Action Items for Discussion:
There were no action items for discussion.
There being no further business, Commissioner Piecewicz made a motion to adjourn.
Motion was moved and seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:43 PM. The next
meeting of the Civil Service Commission will take place on Wednesday, February
25, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
