HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Service Commission - 10/22/20141 CITY OF KENT- CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES The City of Kent Civil Service Commission met on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. in Chambers West for the regular meeting. The following information was discussed: Members Present: Callius Zaratkiewicz Pauline Thomas Jeff Piecewicz Others Present: Assistant Chief Rafael Padilla, others present. Chair Zaratkiewicz asked those present to review the ‘Accept Into Record’ items 1-10 under New Business. He then called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. after giving the audience time to review said items. I. COMMISSION BUSINESS: A. Action Items for Discussion: 1. Memo dated October 16, 2014 requesting to reschedule the November and December 2014 Commission meetings due to the holidays. Commissioner Thomas made a motion to move the November and December 2014 Commission meeting to the third Wednesday of the month. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. II. HEARING: III. OLD BUSINESS: A. Accept Into Record 1. Approval of the Minutes from the September 24, 2014 Civil Service Commission meeting. Commissioner Thomas made a motion to accept into record the minutes from the September 24, 2014 Civil Service Commission meeting. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. Accept into Record 1. Memo dated September 18, 2014 from Chief Thomas noting that Ofr. Jeremiah Johnson will be assigned to Patrol effective October 5, 2014. Civil Service Commission Minutes October 22, 2014 2 2. Memo dated September 29, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Sgt. Jonathan Shipman will be assigned as the NRT Sergeant effective October 1, 2014. 3. Letter dated September 30, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Corrections Officer Ian Lentz notifying him that he successfully completed probation effective September 30, 2014. 4. Memo dated October 7, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Assistant Chief Padilla will be Acting Chief October 12-17, 2014. 5. Memo dated October 7, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Sgt. Mike Armstrong will be Acting Corrections Commander October 16- 31, 2014. 6. Memo dated October 7, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Sgt. Griesbach will be Acting Corrections Commander November 10-21, 2014. 7. Memo dated October 8, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Ofr. Jen Prusa will be assigned as Acting Sergeant from October 10-20, 2014. 8. Letter dated October 13, 2014 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Kali Kranz letting her know that her name was removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police officer effective October 13, 2014 per her request. 9. Letters dated October 13, 2014 from Chief Examiner Winecka to William Catlett, Darren Keblish, Andrew Rosenthal, and Justin Spence notifying them that their names were removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police officer effective October 13, 2014. 10. Memo dated October 15, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Sgt. Joe Gagner will be assigned as the Acting Patrol Commander from October 17- November 10, 2014. Chair Zaratkiewicz asked if there were any questions on items 1-10. There being no questions, Chair Zaratkiewicz made a motion to accept into record items one through ten. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. B. Approve into Record: 1. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Entry Level Police Officer that was established on September 25, 2014. 2. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Lateral/ Experienced Police Officer that was established on September 25, 2014. 3. Eligibility list for the position of Records Specialist that was established on October 15, 2014. 4. Memo and supporting documents for the reclassification of the Support Services Manager position. Chair Zaratkiewicz asked if there were any questions on any of the items. Commissioner Piecewicz had some questions regarding the reclassification process that were answered by Chief Examiner Winecka and A/C Padilla. There being no further questions, Chair Zaratkiewicz made a motion to approve into record the Civil Service Commission Minutes October 22, 2014 3 eligibility lists and the reclassification. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. C. Action Items for Discussion: There were no action items for discussion. Chair Zaratkiewicz then asked if there was any further business to come before the Commission. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made. Motion was moved and seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:38 PM. The next meeting of the Civil Service Commission will take place on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
