HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Service Commission - 09/24/20141 CITY OF KENT- CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES The City of Kent Civil Service Commission met on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. in Chambers West for the regular meeting. The following information was discussed: Members Present: Callius Zaratkiewicz- arranged absence Pauline Thomas Jeff Piecewicz Others Present: Assistant Chief Rafael Padilla, others present. Acting Chair Thomas asked those present to review the ‘Accept Into Record’ items 1- 11 under New Business. She then called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. after giving the audience time to review said items. I. COMMISSION BUSINESS: II. HEARING: III. OLD BUSINESS: A. Accept Into Record 1. Approval of the Minutes from the August 27, 2014 Civil Service Commission meeting. Commissioner Piecewicz made a motion to accept into record the minutes from the August 27, 2014 Civil Service Commission meeting. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. Accept into Record 1. Letter dated August 13, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Kyle O’Hagan congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer effective September 2, 2014. 2. E-mail dated September 5, 2014 from Cmdr. Jarod Kasner noting that Ofr. William Sorenson did not meet the requirements to complete the Field Training Program and that he was released from duty. 3. Letter dated September 5, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Samuel Steiner congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Lateral Police Officer effective October 16, 2014. 4. E-mail dated September 9, 2014 from Chief Thomas noting that Ofr. Gilbert Bolof did not pass the probationary period. 5. Letter dated September 5, 2014 from Chief Thomas to Mark Rosser congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Lateral Police Officer effective September 16, 2014. E-mail dated September 10, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the department of the upcoming promotions of Mike O’Reilly to Commander effective September 16, 2014 and Tom Clark to Sergeant effective October 1, 2014. 7. Memo dated September 11, 2014 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that Ofr. Jen Prusa will be assigned as Acting Sergeant from September 16- October 1, 2014. 8. Letters dated September 12, 2014 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Derek Pedersen and Joshua Holt notifying them that their names have been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police Officer effective September 12, 2014. 9. Letters dated September 12, 2014 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Stephen Eytel, Gregory Fitz, and David Loverich notifying them that their names have been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police Officer effective September 12, 2014. 10. Letters dated September 12, 2014 from Chief Examiner Winecka to John Lee and Graham O’Brien notifying them that their names have been removed from the Continuous Testing Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police Officer effective September 12, 2014. 11. Letters dated September 12, 2014 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Marshall Smith and Seth Moore notifying them that their names have been removed from the Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Lateral/Experienced Police Officer effective September 12, 2014. Acting Chair Thomas asked if there were any questions on items 1-11. There being no questions, Commissioner Piecewicz made a motion to accept into record items one through eleven. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. B. Approve into Record: 1. Eligibility list for the rank of Commander that was established on August 28, 2014. 2. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Entry Level Corrections Officer that was established on September 9, 2014. Acting Chair Thomas asked if there were any questions on items one and two. There being no questions, she made a motion to approve into record items one and two. Motion was moved and seconded; motion passed. C. Action Items for Discussion: There were no action items for discussion. Civil Service Commission Minutes September 24, 2014 3 Acting Chair Thomas then asked if there was any further business to come before the Commission. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made. Motion was moved and seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:34 PM. The next meeting of the Civil Service Commission will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
