DATE: March 16, 2016
TO: Civil Service Commission
CC: A/C Padilla
FROM: Ken Thomas, Chief of Police
RE: Civil Service Rule 9.01, Request to Test for Records Specialist
The Kent Police Department request permission to test for the position of Records Specialist
at the Secretary/Chief Examiner's earliest convenience, and that the following weights be
applied to this testing process:
Written: 30% (70% passing score required)
Typing: Pass/Fail
Oral Board: 70% (70% passing score required)
Background: Pass/Fail
Polygraph: Pass/Fail
The Kent Police Department requests that the top 20 candidates from the written and typing
tests move to the oral board process. Additionally, it is requested that; in the event that
there are not sufficient applicants obtained via the in-house opening process, we would then
open the process to external applicants with the same language (above) that restricts how
many candidates we take forward to the oral board process.
