LaPorte, P.E., Public Works Director Subject: Central Avenue South Pavement Preservation Acceptance of Federal Grant Item - Motion: Move to recommend Council authorize the Mayor to accept a Federal Grant in the amount of $300,000 for the Design Phase of the Central Avenue South Pavement Preservation Project and direct staff to establish a budget for the funds, subject to final terms and conditions acceptable to the City Attorney and Public Works Director. Summary: The pavement along South Central Avenue between Willis Street and S 262"d Street has numerous cracks, rutting and failing patches and is in dire need of repair. The City of Kent Public Works Department competed for and was awarded a $300,000 federal grant from the Puget Sound Regional Council for the Design Phase of the Central Avenue South Pavement Preservation Project. This funding will allow the City to complete the design and permitting phases of this critically needed improvement and will make this project more competitive for future funding opportunities. This project will repair failing pavement sections and provide a full-width overlay of the roadway. Budget Impact: The City will receive $300,000 of federal funding.
