Mer+na Ha400: Planner lathleen Allard;Secretary OLD BUSINESS APPROVAL OF MINUTES commissioner Tate MOVED and Commissioner Duclos, SECONDED to approve the minutes of ,tune 29,2000. Motion carried. DAWN UPDATE Katherin Johnson reported that since our last meeting in June,the City of Kent has terminated the Community Advocate Program, supported by PROP TWO money, however the remaining contracts are still in effect at this time. Katherin went on to say that a letter was sent to DAWN, regarding meeting contractual issuses set forth by the Commission, and to this date,there has been no response. Next week there will be a`meeting with the City Attomey's office, YWCA, Human Services,John Hodgson and Sharon Hayden,to discuss assuming the CAP Services, to provide a community advocate in DV Court to assist the victims. This is a critical part of the family violence unit program.There has not been a response to the Commissions' request,#o have their boardin place,prior to contracting for 2001.A deadline of December 20,2000, must be met by DAWN, to order to rece►ve money for the 2001 contract. Several of the cities in the. South County area,`remained concerned and reluctant to provide money also Commssioner Bel) urged the other Commissioners, that if and when contacted at their place of bosiness by DAWN,.#9 refer those calls to the Human Services Comrnission Staff. HUMAN SERVICES MONTH The Mayors Forum was taped#orthe month of November. Judy Bennett has been working wish Jan Bannister to the Mayors office to jet the proclamation prepared. KENT FOOD BANK CONTRACTING REQUIREMENTS Staff met with the Kent 1 Food Bank Board. They have sched!ilea classes in diversity training for i the staff.The Board is also looking at how to best serve the Eat Hill area."hey are considering a mobile unit for the distribution of food. ,N ' s 3 �,>a NEW BUSINESS 2'�QUARTER GENERAL FUND REPORT Most of the agencies are meeting and/or exceeding their requirements. Comm sinner:: Duclos` ""A ,1 ued#he,Legisla ive Forum in September was very successful; Candidates were provided in. advance,with questions of which they`had one minute to address. Commissioner Duelos was very satisfied i. with the turnout and felt it provided candidates with an overview of South County concerns. SOUTH KING COUNTY HUMAN SERVICES FORUM REPORT The South King County Human Service Foram, which is the body of cities and United Way that meet monthly, adopted the first goal in the Subregional Plan, to standardize the food bank delivery system. A subcommittee has formed to follow through with this idea. GUEST SPEAKERS Mark Gustafson and Sharon Hayden spoke regarding the Family Violence Unit's first year. The main goal, as it has always been,is the safety of the victims and children. The unit has also been working to hasten the process from arrest to resolution. On the average, it is only taking two months, now due to the coordinated effort.
