CITY OF KENT
and
WASHINGTON STATE COUNCIL OF COUNTY AND CITY
EMPLOYEES, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, LOCAL #21-K
regarding
An Addendum to the existing collective bargaining Agreement between the parties, for the
purposes of including Mechanics in the Fire Department as represented employees.
It is agreed between the parties, as denoted by signatures below, that the following terms and
conditions shall prevail:
1. The affected employees shall receive a 2.5% salary increase retroactive to August 1,
1994. The Fire Apparatus Mechanic Supervisor shall receive $728.17, less applicable
payroll taxes, as a signing incentive. The Fire Apparatus Mechanic shall receive $616.81,
less applicable payroll taxes, as a signing incentive.
2. The affected employees shall have the City contribution towards their dependent medical
premiums increased equal to the current rate being contributed for bargaining unit
employees, retroactive to August 1, 1994.
3. The employees shall continue to provide their own tools and the City shall continue to
replace any lost, stolen, worn-out or damaged tools.
4. The City agrees to continue the current work schedule (four ten-hour shifts) as previously
agreed to. However, scheduling changes may be made where there is an operating need.
The Union shall be given 14 days advance notice of any proposed change in the basic
schedule to discuss alternatives and impacts.
5. For the Seniority provision of the collective bargaining Agreement,the employees
"length of continuous service with the City within the bargaining unit" shall be
considered as their time spent in their current classification.
6. In addition to the Health and Safety provisions of the collective bargaining Agreement
and the Addendum to such, the affected employees shall each be provided appropriate
rain gear, department approved coats and Red Wing safety boots/shoes.
7. The City shall provide each employee with at least five (5) uniforms and eleven (11)
coveralls. The City will continue to provide laundry service for the coveralls. The City
agrees to replace any damaged or worn-out uniforms.

Fire Mechanics
Unless specifically modified herein, the affected employees shall be covered by all applicable
provisions of the collective bargaining Agreement and any Addendum. Should a conflict arise
between current practice and the terms of the collective bargaining Agreement that is not
specifically addressed herein, the parties agree to immediately negotiate said conflict only.
