SUBJECT: 1983 Jail Contract with the U.S. Marshalls Service
The 1983 Jail Contract has been received from the United States Department of
Justice for the the United States Marshalls Service. The cost, to the Marshalls
Service, per bed, per day is $34.52. This is the same as the 1982 contract.
Article VI - Financial Provision - Section 4 on page 4 of 5, deals with the
possibility of the City of Kent, providing twenty (20) beds to the Marshalls
Service on a continuing basis for a period of five (5) years. The last para-
graph, of Section 5, makes this offer until July 1, 1985. After this date
the Marshalls Service reserves the right to withdraw or modify the offer.
This contract has been reviewed by the Police Commnd Staff and the City
Attorney. It is recommended that the Kent City Council authorize Mayor Hogan
to sign the contract.
