AN ORDINANCE of the City of Kent,
Washington, relating to traffic and parking;
adopting a new Section 10.06.07 of the Kent
City Code prohibiting parking within ten feet
of mailboxes on or located adjacent to the
public right-of-way.

WHEREAS, certain residents of the, City of Kent are not
serviced by porch pickup or delivery but are serviced by mailboxes
located on or adjacent to the public right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, postal employees are instructed to service
mailboxes located on or adjacent to the public right-of-way only
if such service can be provided without the postal employee
leaving the mail truck; and
WHEREAS, motor vehicles parked along side the road in the
immediate vicinity of mailboxes located on or adjacent to the
public right-of-way obstruct and prevent mail delivery; NOW
THEREFORE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A new Section 10.06.07 of the Kent City Code
is adopted as follows:
10.06.07. PROHIBITING PARKING BY MAILBOXES.
A. No motor vehicle shall be parked within ten feet of
a clearly visible, residential mailbox which is located directly
adjacent to curbside or on public right-of-way between the hours
of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. except Sundays and holidays.
B. Penalty. Any violation of the Kent City Code,
Section 10.06.07 shall be an infraction and punishable by a
monetary penalty of not more than $100. Vehicles in violation are
also subject to impoundment as provided by law.

Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force five (5) days from and after its passage,
approval and publication as provided by law.
