THE CI'T'Y COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: hG�10 ;vection 1. In all paving districts in the City of Kent�in which the 4 ` streets shall hove been or shall hereafter be paved,all sidewalks and street crossings herafter built andall renewal of existing sidewalks and stref•t crossings shall be made and constructed of flagstone, paving brick or concrete. `lection 2. All flag stone,paving btrok and concrete sidewalks shall have R grade from the property line to the street curb of one fourth inch to the foot. r U Section 3. Flag rtone for the construction of sidewalks shall be �( at least two feet nqur�re and three inches bhiok. Paving btiek shall shall be of a, good quality of vitrified brick. Both flagstone and brick side walk shrll be supported by a four inch gravel foundation covered with aa, sand cushion one half inch thick. Concrete for the base of sidewalks shall consist of the following rrsixture, #� 1 part of standard portland oement,three parts of ooarse,sharp, ! clean snnd and four parts of clean screened gravel,whose partucles shall not exceed two inches in diameter. The said substances to be t mixed thoroughly at least twice while dry,once while being wetted and once after wetting;the concrete shall then be placed in position and thoroughly tamped so ns to bring -the particles in close contact. Case must be trken not to use so much water as topuddle the mixture and to use enough w,nter to cause the cement to set and harden to the hardest possible degree and condition. The topping for concrete sidewalks shall consist of one half inch of a mixture of one part standard Portland cement and tw•-) pasts of clenn,shnrp,coarse s:uid,mixed and wetted in tha same manner as the bpme, except Vint it shall btb pade wet enough to puddle, but not wet e ough to run, or so that the water will separate the nand from the cem ent. i'he topping shnll be put on ir..unediately after the base is laid and tnnp ed,and not more than twenty minutes shall be perrrdtted to elapse after' any portion of the base is in place,before the topping be plead thereon The topping shf.Lll be troN gilled down to a smooth even surface and Mark - e4 in to squnres. In street crossings flag atone and bricks shall be at least four inch es thick, laid upon gravel and sand foundation as in the case of sidewalkr, In concrete croosings like mixtures shall be used as iti sidewalks, Rave th:�t the mixture for base shall be in the proportion of one past ce gent, two parts ssnd a:nd three parts gravel, The lrnoe in concrete street "crossings 'shall be four ino'ies thick and the topping 2 inches thick. :'ection 4. ;'he use of continuous mixing machines for mixing the toP— ping for sidewalks, street crossings of other paving is proSibited. :vection 5. Any person refusing to conform to the provisions of this ordin?nce in the construction of flagstone,brick or concrete sidewalks and street cro-esings,or violating any of its rovisions shall be deemed guilty of a. �aJsdemennor,and on conviction sh 1 be fined in any sum not exceeding one hundred dolln.re,or imprisoned t exeeedin thirty days.
