amending ordinance leo. 23, entitled fAn ordinance to pro-
vide for the uniform width and material of wooden side
walks to be built in the Town of Kent; be and the same
is hereby amended to read as Follows to -*it!
'khatall side walks on Railroad Avenue and ?first
Stleet, and the south side of 'Yeeke,r Avenue from the west
line of li.rst Street to the w6st ' line of block fifteen of
U sler#s lot. f Addition to .the Tbn of Kent, shall be
eight feet (e i"te) aide, and,'side walks upon all other
streets shall be six 46) flet wide,
That said side walks shall be constructed of fir
and cedar lumber in the following manner, The planking
of the side walks shall be of fir lumber, two by six ( 2x6) ,
planking, sized, securely spiked with nails not less than
five (5) inches in length, to three (3) fir longitudinal
stringers which shall be three (3) inches thick by six
(6) inches wide placed on edge, which said stringers shall
rest upon a cedar mud sill six (6) inches wide and four
(4) inches thick, running the entire width of the side
walk, placed ten (10) feet apart,
The stringers shall be placed two arid -lone half (2*)
inches from the outer and the inner edge of the side walk,
and the other as near the center of said side walk as may
be. The planking shall be securely nailed with each string-
er. If extralklocking is required to support Abe stringers
Ior mud sills: all blocking resting upon the ground shall
be of cedar.
The elevation of the outer edge of the side walk,
when laid shall be identical with the center of the street
when graded, and the elevation of the inner edge of all
eight (S) foot side walks shall be two (2) inches higher
than the outer edge and the elevation of the inner edge of
all six ( 6 ) f oot side walks shall be one and one half h
(1+) inches higher than the outer edge of the same.

Gress walks shall be contracted at ewe3'reet
orossing extending to within six ( 6) feet of the ends of
each side walk by placing on the surface of the street
cedar sills 4ax4"x6" crosswise of the walk and not more
than six (6) feet apart first ohampering the upper sides
of the sills at the ends for a distance back, of one (1)
foot to a wedge shape and thenspikeing to these sills
planks 3"xl2" to within six (6) feet of the ends of the
side walks useing two (2) six (6) inch spikes, at each
crossing of sill and plank.

The arose walks and side walks shall be connected by
an inclined plane construsted of fir planking 2"x12"x6',
oecurely spiked to cedar sills and thereby making a contin-
uous walk of even surface.
SEC. V.
All side walks hereafter built or repaired within

the Town of Kent, shall be built or repaired under the
directions and supervision of the Town Marshall.
SRC. V1.
This ordinance shall take effect and 1e In force
from and after its passage, approval and publication.
