Ordinance No. 1116
An Ordinance establishing regulations governing the
the use of glass and plastics in various type doors
and adjacent panels, including among others, sliding
glass patio doors, shower and bath tub enclosures.
Sec. I Purpose: It is the purpose of this ordinance to provide reasonable
standar s to govern the use of glass in various type doors and panels
for the general protection and safety of the public and of the private home
owner.
Sec. II Standards: The standards provided herein are determined to be
the minimum requirements, and this ordinance shall not prevent the
use of materials which are deemed better than, nor requirements which
are more strict than the minimum noted herein.
Sec. III Definitions: Shall is mandatory; may is permissive.
Sec. IV Where glass is used in the fabrication of doors and/or adjacent
panels, shower, and/or bath tub enclosures that contain over 1440
square inches of glass, said glass shall not be less than 7/32 inches
in thickness, and shall be of the following approved types only.
(1) Wire reinforced glass, in which the diameter of the wire used
therein shall not be less than . 020 inch, and the area of glass enclosed
by the wire strands shall not exceed 1 1/Z square inches.
(2) Tempered glass.
(3) Laminated safety glass.
(4) Zn the event that a horizontal mutin is installed no less than 3011and
not more than 48" above the adjacent floor which physically divides the
glass, 3/1.6!' thickness glass may be used in sliding patio doors and
their adjacent panels.
Sec. V Where plastic materials are used in the fabrication of doors and/
or adjacent panels, showers, and/or bath tub enclosures, said plastics
shall be of the following approved types and characteristics.
(1) Fiberglass reinforced panels of a weight of not less than 8 ounces
per square foot.
(2) Acrylic resin thermoplastic of not less than 1/8 inches thickness.
Sec. VI Shower and bath tub enclosures.
(1) All wall panels and doors enclosing shower and bath tubs shall
be constructed of approved shatter resistant materials.
(2) All hinged shower doors and bath tub doors shall open outward.
Sec. VII Materials
(1) All materials regulated by ,this Ordinance shall be identified as to
type and material.
Sec. VIII Penalties: Any person, partnership, association, firm or
corporationwho' wilfully violates, disobeys, omits, neglects, or re-
fuses, to comply with or resists the enforcement of the Ordinance or its
provisions shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
thereof shall be punished by a fine of not in excess of three hundred
dollar.s ($300. 00) or by imprisonment in the City Jail not to exceed
ninety (90) days or both such fine and imprisonment. Each day that
a violation exists shall constitute a separate offense.
Sec. IX Effective Date
This Ordinance shall take effect March 1, 1962, and be in force
thereafter, after its passage, approval and publication as by law
provided. `T-
