HomeMy WebLinkAbout2183ORDINANCE NO. 'j 3 AN ORDINANCE of the City of Kent, Washington, establishing a Disability Board, with jurisdiction over Police officers and firefighters of the City of Kent. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. CREATION OF DISABILITY BOARD. There is hereby created a Disability Board, having jurisdiction over Police officers and firefighters as provided for by Chapter 209, Laws of 1969 Extra Session, as amended by Chapter 219, Laws of 1969 Extra Session, and by Chapter 120, Laws of 1974 1st Extra Session. Section 2. FUNCTIONS OF THE BOARD. The Disability Board shall perform all functions, exercise all powers and make such determinations as may be specified under the foregoing laws of the State of Washington and as the same may be amended from time to time. Section 3. MEMBERSHIP OF THE DISABILITY BOARD. The Disability Board shall consist of the following members: A. Two members of the City Council to be appointed by the Mayor. B. One firefighter to be elected by the firefighters employed by the City of Kent. C. One law enforcement officer to be elected by the law enforcement of- ficers employed by the City of Kent. D. One member from the public at large who resides within the City of Kent to be appointed by the other four duly appointed and elected members heretofore designated. Section 4. 'PERMS OF OFFICE. All members appointed or elected pursuant to Section 3 shall serve a two year term with the exception of the law enforcement member who, on the first term,shall serve for one year only. ' Section 5. COMPENSATION. The members of the Disa- bility Board shall receive no compensation for their services upon the Board, but shall be reimbursed for all expenses incident- al to such service in the manner and amount provided for employees of the City of Kent. Section 6. ORGANIZATION - RULES AND REGULATIONS - MEETINGS. The Disability Board shall elect from its membership a chairman who shall serve a one year term. The chairman shall be entitled to succeed himself or herself in office unless said chair men is not re -appointed or re-elected to a new term. The Disa- bility Board shall adopt operating rules and procedures and shall meet at such time and place as such rules and regulations shall provide. Section 7. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be- come effective and be in force five (5) days from and after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law.
