AN ORDINANCE of the City of Kent, Wash-
ington, adding a new Section to Ordinance
1565 and amending Section 16 thereof.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON, DO
HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. There is hereby added to Ordinance 1565 a
new Section which shall read as follows:
"PERSONS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS. It is
unlawful for any person who is an habitual
user of or under the influence of any nar-
cotic drug or who is under the influence of
any other drug to a degree which renders him
incapable of safely driving a vehicle to drive
a vehicle within the City Limits. The fact
that any person charged with a violation of
this Section is or has been entitled to use
such drug under the laws of the State shall
not constitute a defense against any charge
of violating this Section."
Section 2. Section 16 of Ordinance 1565 which reads
as follows:
"PENALTY FOR VIOLATION. Any person convicted
of a violation of any of the Sections of this
Chapter shall, in addition to any other penalties
as provided by State Law, be punished by a fine
of not more than THREE HUNDRED (300) DOLLARS,
or by imprisonment for not more than Ninety (90)
days in jail, or by both such fine and imprison-
ment."
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"PENALTY FOR VIOLATION. Any person convicted
of a violation of any of the Sections of this
Chapter shall, in addition to any other penalties
as provided by State law, be punished by a fine
of not more than FIVE HUNDRED (500) DOLLARS, or
by imprisonment for not more than Six (6)
months in jail, or by both such fine and im-
prisonment."

Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in
force five (5) days from and after its passage, approval and pub-
lication as provided by law.
