ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE of the City of Kent,
Washington reducing the posted speed limit
from 50 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour
on the East Valley Highway (Old No. 167)
from South 228th to the north Kent city
limits, which street forms a part of the
State of Washington Highway System;
directing the City Traffic Engineer to
obtain the ratification and approval of
said actions from the Washington State
Highway Commission; ordering the City
Traffic Engineer to supervise the place-
ment of appropriate 40 mile per hour
speed limit signs on said street; and
imposing penalties and fines for the
violations of the terms of this
Ordinance.
12 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON, DO
13 ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Upon the effective date of this Ordinance
14 the posted and legal speed limit on the following described
15 street located within the City Limits of the City of Kent,
16 Washington, and which street forms a part of the Washington
State Highway System shall be reduced from 50 miles per hour to
17 40 miles per hour, to -wit:
18 East Valley Highway (Old No. 167) from South
228th to the North Kent City Limits.

Section 2. The City Traffic Engineer is herewith
20 directed to obtain from the Washington State Highway Commission
21' said Commission's approval and ratification of the terms of this
22 Ordinance as required by RCW 47.24.020 of the Laws of the State of
Washington.
23 Section 3. Upon the effective date of this Ordinance
24 the City Traffic Engineer shall supervise the placement of
25 appropriate "40 mile per hour speed limit" signs on said
street.
26 Section 4. Violation of the speed limit as called for
27 in this Ordinance may result in a conviction leading to a jail
28 sentence of ug.to ninety (90-) days and/or a fine of up to Three
Hundred Dollars ($300.00) or both such fine and imprisonment.
%29 Section 5. This Ordinance shall take effect and be
30 in force from and after its passage, approval and publication as
31 Provided by law and once a copy of a communication approving

I the terms hereof from the Washington State Highway Commission is
2 filed herewith in the office.of the Kent City Clerk.
