AN ORDINANCE of the City of Kent, Washington
relating to the checks drawn to the order of or
received by the City of Kent; authorizing the
Supervisor of Treasury Accounting to impose a
service fee in the amount of ten dollars ($10) on
checks dishonored by a drawee bank; adding a new
Section 2.16.160 to the Kent City Code.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON, DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A new Section 2.16.160 is added to the Kent
City Code as follows:
2 16 160 Receipt of Checks. Fee on Dishonored Checks.
A. The Supervisor of Treasury Accounting (Supervisor)
is authorized, in her discretion and as a service to the public,
to accept checks drawn to the order of or received by the City of
Kent in payment on utility and other accounts, and for licenses,
permits, and other .fees, services, or obligations. The drawer
presenting the check to the Supervisor shall produce such
identification as the Supervisor may require.
B. In the event that any check accepted by the
Supervisor is dishonored by the drawee bank when presented for
payment, the Supervisor is authorized to impose a service charge
and fee in the amount of ten dollars ($10).
Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force five (5) days from and after its passage,
approval and publication as provided by law.
