AN ORDINANCE of the City of Kent,
Washington relating to utility fees or taxes to
increase the utility fee or tax on garbage
j services from 2-1/2 percent to 6-1/2 percent
amending Ordinance Nos. 2390 and 2514.
V WHEREAS, the the City has determined that a garbage
utility tax rate increase is necessary to provide a source of
funds associated with the closure and cleanup of Kent -Highlands
Landfill; NOW THEREFORE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Utility Tax on City Operated Utilities.
Amending Section 3.04.040 (d) as follows:
(d) Upon every person engaging in or carrying on the
business of selling, furnishing or distributing water
((j-garbageT)) and sewer services, a fee or tax equal to two
and one-half percent (2-1/2%) of the total gross income from such
business in the City during the tax year; PROVIDED, however, that
!the fee or tax upon the City's gross income from its sales of
utility services shall be two percent (2%). PROVIDED FURTHER,
that the fee or tax upon every person engaging in or carrying on
the business of selling, furnishing or distributing garba e
services, a fee or tax equal to six and one-half percent (6-1/2%)
of the total gross income from such business in the City during
the tax year.
Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force five (5) days from and after its passage,
approval and publication as provided by law.
