HomeMy WebLinkAbout590RESO~UTION NO. ______ .S_'l_Q __________ _ BE IT P-ESOLVED BY THE NvWW liND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, VIASHINGTON, AS FOLLO\·!S: WHEREAS the residents of King County, Washington, recently gave their endorsements to the financing, by means of General Obligation Bonds, of a stadium, together with site acquisition and improvements relating thereto, in the total sum of $40,000,000.00 and WHEREAS various studies are being undertaken to determine the most appro- priate, conv3nient, and beneficial site and WHEREAS it has been recently determined by the consulting firms employed for such purpose that the most advantageous site would be located in the River- ton area and that two additional suburban sites located in the vicinity of Northrup Way and in the South Park area wou I d I i kewi se be e>(treme I y sui tab I e from every conceivable standpoint and V/HEREAS the citizens of the City of ___ _!_<.§:l_~_I _______ ,_f<ing County, i'/ashington, firmly believe that it would be for the best interest of E__I_L._<?Ll..~_c:jJ_i_t;_E?ll.§. of King County and adjoining counties to the north and south thereof that any such stadium be located in a suburban area as recommended by the consulting firm fran the standpointof cost, land and site development, accessabi lity, and 'general cost-economic benefit ratio NO'./ THEREFOf~E, DE IT I~ESOLVED BY THE fN\YOR. AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 1\EIH, \'/1\SHII~GTOIJ, as follows: (I) The above recitals and facts are hereby found to be true and correct in a I I respects. (2) The City of __ l<_E_f'!_T_ ___ J.King County, ':/ashington, hereby declares its intention to fully support the Riverton site recoromended by the consulting firm and in addition thereto to fu I I y support, as a I ternate sites, those recommended in the Northrup Way and South Park areas, respectively. It is further believed that any site location in the downJ·OWf:ll Seattle area would be of distinct disad- vantage to alI prospective users of said facility by reason primarily of inadequate parking facilities, already existing overload of traffic conditions, and rapidly increasing congestion in the downtovm metropolitan area and above alI the excessive costs estimated for the acquisition of site and parking areas. This legislative body, in particular, looks with disfavor upon any attempt by the City of Seattle to uti I i ze this project, supported and financed by a II of the citizens of King County, as a quasi urban .renew_a~ project or attemp.t to !3) The City of KENT _zJSi ng County, Washington, further recommends that alI other cities, community organizations, and clubs, and individual citizens I ' residing outside the corporate limits of the City of Seattle take alI necessary steps to voice their support for the aforementioned suburban sites and to vigorously insist that the total cost of the proposed stadiUm and related improvements be kept substantially within the limits of the authorized general obligation bond issue priviously approved by alI of t~e citizens of King County.
