A RESOLUTION of the City Council of
the City of Kent, Washington, to petition
the Washington Utilities and Transportation
Commission for review and reduction of train
speeds in the City of Kent.
WHEREAS, there have been numerous accidents at on-
grade railroad crossings in the City of Kent over the past few
years, and
WHEREAS, the increased volume of motor vehicle
traffic over said on-grade crossings together with the speed
of railroad trains passing through the City may be precipi-
tating causes of accidents, and
WHEREAS, the present speed limit of 40 miles per
hour for trains within the City may no longer be realistic,
and
WHEREAS, the City has no independent authority to
regulate train speeds in the City, NOW, THEREFORE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON
HEREBY RESOLVE:
Section 1. That petition be made to the Washington
Utilities and Transportation Commission for a review of train
speeds in the City of Kent with a view to reducing said speeds
from the present 40 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour.
Section 2. That the petition include a request that
the speeds be effective upon entering the City from either direc-
tion and until leaving the City in the opposite direction.

Section 3. PASSED at a regular meeting of the Kent
City Council this 20th day of November, 1972.
