RESOLUTION NO. ~
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of
the City of Kent, Washington, authorizing
the expenditure of not to exceed $3,500 in
city general funds to provide the necessary
local matching funds for public transporta-
tion planning work.
WHEREAS, the Puget Sound Governmental Conference and the
Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle are jointly undertaking the
development of a comprehensive public transportation plan for the
region and the Metropolitan Area respectively; and
WHEREAS, the City of Kent is an important residential
commercial and employment center within the Metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, public transportation service to the City is in
danger of being discontinued under existing circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to participate with other cities
ln the preparation of the metropolitan public transportation plan
in order to achieve an improved level of transit service; and
WHEREAS, the Governn1ental Conference, as the designated
planning agency for the urban region of which the Municipality and
the City are a part, is willing to act as contracting agency for
this study and to request the federal funding assistance required;
and
WHEREAS, the study should be conducted in a metropolitan
context to insure compatibility with necessary public transportation
in other communities of the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Kent,
Washington, in the regular meeting, herewith resolves as follows:

Section 1. An expenditure of not to exceed $3,500
shall be made out of the City General Fund for the purpose of
providing local matching funds which, with supplemental federal
grants and other funds, will pay the cost of the planning work.
A Kent representative shall participate on the committee appointed
by Metro to guide development of the comprehensive plan. Subject
to the foregoing, the Governmental Conference is authorized and
requested to execute contracts with consultants to accomplish this
planning study and contracts with the United States Department of
Transportation to secure the supplemental grant funds required
therefor.
Section 2. Upon passage and adoption of this
Resolution, the City Clerk shall certify the original there-
of and shall then keep the original Resolution with attach-
ments on file in the office of the Kent City Clerk.
