A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the
City of Kent, washington, urging the Governor
and Legislature to hold a special legislative
session to adopt transportation funding
packages to facilitate local and state ability
to respond to transportation growth issues.
WHEREAS, the City of Kent, as with most cities in the
Puget Sound area, is experiencing transportation gridlock on most
of its major arterials due to the impacts of growth in the region;
and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to generate additional funding
at both the state and local levels in order to construct roadways
to ease existing traffic congestion or at least ensure that the
present level of congestion does not increase; and
WHEREAS, Governor Gardner has proposed a $1 billion
transportation funding package designed to increase funding or
funding sources in order to address transportation congestion; and
WHEREAS, it is crucial that the Legislature address
transportation funding issues immediately to ensure the ability of
state and local governments to respond to transportation related
needs; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council hereby urges the Governor
and the Legislature to immediately hold a special session to
examine and adopt solutions to local and state government
transportation funding needs.
