A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the
City of Kent, Washington, proclaiming
November 23 through 30, 1986 as "National Bible
Week".
WHEREAS, we live in days of uncertainty surrounded by
international turmoil, inflation, rising crime rates and moral
confusion; and
~vHEREAS, for nearly two thousand years the Holy Bible has
been a moral and spiritual resource of comfort and inspiration,
and today its importance cannot be denied as a source of
inspiration all of us can turn to; and
WHEREAS, most religious Americans find in the Holy Bible
guidance for a personal and meaningful faith to sustain them in
all times, and it has become an indestructible foundation of
truth, a "light onto our feet and a lamp onto our path"; and
WHEREAS, the Bible and its teachings helped form the
basis for our founding fathers' belief in the rights and dignity
of the individual and the inspired concepts of civil government
that are contained in our Declaration of Independence and the
Constitution of the United States; NOW THEREFORL
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLmJS:
Section 1. The week of November 23 through 30, 1986
shall be known as "National Bible Week'' in Kent and all citizens
are encouraged to participate in these observances by reading the
Holy Scripture and by donating Bibles not in use so we may share
our God-given abundance with others.
Passed at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
