HomeMy WebLinkAbout964RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Kent, Washington, in support of the movement to halt the nuclear arms race. WHEREAS, at the request of interested citizens, the City Council of the City of Kent, State of Washington, United States of America, did: in regular meeting assembled, on the 19th day of April, 1982, hear the concerns of such citizens as to the danger of continued proliferation of nuclear weapons by various countries in the world; and WHEREAS, those views expressed were seeking action by the City Council in the following resolution: NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that: ( l) To improve national and international security, the United States and the Soviet Union should stop the nuclear arms race. Specifically, they should adopt a mutual freeze on testing, production and deployment of nuclear weapons and of missiles and new aircraft designed primarily to deliver nuclear weapons. This is an essential, verifiable first step toward lessening the risk of nuclear war and reducing existing nuclear arsenals. (2) That this resolution be communicated by the Mayor of the City of Kent immediately to the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, and to each member of the delegation of the State of washington to the u.s. House of Representatives and to each Senator representing the State of washington in the United States Senate. Adopted this ~ day of April, 1982 by the City Council, City of Kent.
