A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the
City of Kent, Washington, relating to Center
Based Transit.
WHEREAS, the concept of Center Based Transit is
consistent with the desire of Kent to have a local intra-city
transit service; and
WHEREAS, the King County Transit Committee staff has
been directed to evaluate Center Based Transit and report to the
King County Transit Committee promptly; and
WHEREAS, local control of local area transit is
essential to satisfying State Growth Management Act requirements;
and
WHEREAS, funding for Center Based Transit would come
primarily from existing revenue sources; and
WHEREAS, integration with the Regional Transit System
is essential to the future mobility of Kent's citizens; and
WHEREAS, the mobility choices of residents within the
Kent growth boundary have a significant impact on the mobility of
Kent residents; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is the desire of the Kent City Council
that the goals of Center Based Transit be encouraged.
SECTION 2. It is the desire of the Kent City Council
that the support of the City of Kent for the Center Based Transit
concept be transmitted to the King County Transit Committee and
the King County Council
SECTION 3. It is the desire of the Kent City Council
that the Kent Transit Advisory Board work with METRO, the
Regional Transit Authority, other King County Cities and the King
County Transit Committee to further refine the concept and
accomplish the goals of Center Based Transit as defined in the
August 4, 1994 presentation to the King County Transit Committee.
