HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council Workshop - Minutes - 02/19/2002 COUNCIL WORKSHOP MINUTES February 19, 2002 COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Tim Clark, Leona Orr, Judy Woods, Julie Peterson, Bruce White The meeting was called to order by Chair Tim Clark at 5:04 PM. Kent Chamber Economic Summit Chief Administrative Officer Mike Martin reported information on the upcoming Economic Summit, saying that the Kent Chamber of Commerce wanted to see if the City's vision aligned with theirs in order to make the most use of resources. The summit will bring together Kent Valley Leadership to try and understand current economic trends and to enhance decision- making that concerns the Valley's economic future. There are some big issues out there that will effect how the City does its strategic plan later in the year. The public will be notified of the summit. Fourth Quarter Strategic Plan Update Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Dena Laurent gave the Fourth Quarter 2001 Update, highlighting how the goals of a Vibrant Downtown, Safe Community, Effective Transportation System, Strong Local Economy, and Valued Government Services are being met. Legislative Update Dena Laurent reported on the Stormwater Bill, the Public Works Trust Fund loan, and the King County Utility Tax legislation, and said there would be an updated list of the Good Bills/Bad Bills available within the next couple of days. Ms. Laurent handed out the Week 5 Report of the 2002 Legislative Session from legislative consultant,Doug Levy. Insurance Briefing Risk Manager Chris Hills handed out the 2002 Risk Profile for the City of Kent,which is a summary report created to look at the City's losses compared with the group average of other cities in the same actuarial group as of 12/31/01. He introduced Lou Leigh, Washington Cities Insurance Authority, who said that the WCIA was not an insurance company, but an agency where 107 cities had pooled resources together for insurance. The agency works hand in hand with the cities' attorneys and winning a case means no money is paid by the cities. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 PM.
