The meeting was called to order by Chair Leona Orr at 5:10 PM.
Legislative Report
Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Dena Laurent gave a legislative update handout. She
reported on ESHB 1953/SSB 5970: Shifting to local government the responsibility for inspecting
alterations to mobile and manufactured housing; and regional transportation.
EMS Levy
Chief Administrative Officer Brent McFall gave a brief history of how the EMS levy had failed
four years before, and that the task force established by the King County Executive had been
• successful at getting legislation changed to allow for a levy. Fire Chief Norm Angelo said the
county has a deficit for EMS and there needs to be a system and level of service to take care of
the people. He suggested the possibility that a south county consortium of cities and fire districts
could form an agency to handle paramedic services for the south county. He handed out a draft
letter from Mayor White to Executive Ron Sims highlighting four key concerns for such an
agency. Chief Angelo said the question is what the best alternative would be that wouldn't
impact services.
The meeting adjourned at 6:25 PM.
