COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Council President Judy Woods, Tim Clark, Connie Epperly,
Leona Orr, Julie Peterson, Bruce White. Rico Yingling was absent.
The workshop was called to order at 5:01 P.M. by Council President Judy Woods.
Simple Care: An Alternative to Traditional Health Care Delivery
Dr. Vern Cherewatenko, Board Certified Family Physician, gave a Power Point presentation on his
program called Simple Care: An Alternative to Traditional Health Care Delivery. He introduced Lori
Swanz, Vice President of Simple Care. (Please refer to Council Workshop packet for detailed
information.) He said that Tom Curry, Drs. Vern Cherewatenko, and David MacDonald had founded
the non profit American Association of Patients and Providers which has a mission to enact common
sense health care solutions and is now the largest patient and doctor association in the country. The
key to Simple Care's success is in cutting out the insurance company middleman. Another program,
Cares for America, is a volunteerism program where patients are given 90 days to volunteer time in
their community for a credit of S10 per hour against their bill. The Maximum Health Assurance Plan
consists of Simple Care, where people pay in cash in full, an affordable Catastrophic Medical Plan,
and a Medical Savings Plan where the money that may be spent would go into the plan over and
above the Catastrophic Plan and employees could use that money to purchase what they wanted.
