HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council Workshop - Minutes - 03/06/2001 COUNCIL WORKSHOP MINUTES
March 6, 2001
COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Leona Orr, Rico Yingling, Judy Woods, Tim
Clark, Connie Epperly, Tom Brotherton
The meeting was called to order by Chair Leona Orr at 5:10 PM.
Earthquake Briefing
Fire Department Emergency Manager Larry Webb gave a briefing on the earthquake damage,
which included damage to a bridge, a water main leak, and sprinkler system damage in a
warehouse area. The Emergency Operations Center had 20 people working immediately, and
Mr. Webb said he was impressed with the City and how well they did. He said the Mt. Weather
training really helped. Three hundred FEMA people will be coming to the area to assess
damages and work with the citizens to provide funding for repairs.
• Water Supply—Summer Forecasts
Public Works Director Don Wickstrom said the aquifers were really down and all the wells had
been stressed. Staff is looking at all options available for more water supply and working on
agreements with other agencies such as Renton, Auburn and Soos Creek. Getting through the
summer will be tight because of the drought unless demand is cut back and conservation
measures put in place. He said the City needs to have the option of mandatory enforcement and
that there would be an ordinance on that night's Council agenda under Other Business.
Legislative Update
Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Dena Laurent gave a legislative update, reporting on the
I-695 backfill, Bills on DWI, recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Commission, and
Buildable Lands. She said the Mayor was going to Washington D.C. to ask for help.
The meeting adjourned at 6:13 PM.
