Also present was Fire Chief Tom Foster, hrz Fire Chief Foster explained that the purpose of the meeting y, was to request that the standards for physical examinations for new firefighters be upgraded, and that the Board consider using Firemen' s Pension Funds to pay for physicals for new ;. men. Foster submitted a proposed form to be used by doctors , pointing out that up until this time each prospective new fire- man had a physical examination at his own expense and by a doctor of his choice . Board members noted the importance of complete physicals , since under the new LEFF law, the cities are responsi- , ble for medical costs for uniformed personnel from the date of their hire. Foster noted that the legislature is studying an act which would adopt standards for physicals, as recommended by the Fire Chiefs, but pointed out that he would be hiring 2 new firemen soon, and would like to have the city act now. LEE moved for the Firemen's Pension Funds to be used to pay for physicals for the 2 new fire men, not to exceed $150 each, in accordance with the Standards as submitted by the Fire Chief. Foster pointed out that the King ,Zj ` County Health Department gives the physicals for Seattle police- men and firemen, and that the FAA Class 3 physical contains a booklet to be filled out by the examining doctor. Bridge pointed out that as a member of the County Disability Board, he knew that the Board required those seeking disability retirements to be exa- :4 mined by the board's doctors. Lee suggested that the Valley General Hospital might be willing to give the type of examination the city deemed necessary. It was determined that. a committee should be formed to investigate the best source of satisfactory examinations , and it was suggested that members of the Police Department, Fire Department and City Council should serve on this committee. LEE C moved to amend his motion to include that the examinations for the 2 new firemen were to be given at the judgment of the Fire Chief, after he has determined what facilities are available at this time. Berg concurred . Motion and amendment carried unanimously. There was no further business to be brought before the Board and ' the meeting was adjourned at 11 : 25 A.M.
