HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Fireman's Relief and Pension Board - 11/29/1971 ai gR; fi a FIREMEN'S RELIEF & PENSION BOARD MEETING November 29 , 1971 The Firemen ' s Pension Board Meeting was called to order at srr 11 .00 a.m. by Chairman Mayor Hogan. Board members present: #j Captain Bridge, Lieutenant Berg Councilman Lee and City Clerk Jensen. Also present: Fire Chief Foster and Police Chief McQuery a,. The City Clerk noted that the Treasurer had reported the balance of the Firemen ' s Relief & Pension Funds as of November 18th was as follows : a - I. Cash 2, 132.06 Notes Receivable 48 , 247 . 39 Investments 186, 894.49 TOTAL $237 273 .94 The Treasurer noted that $25 , 000 worth of treasury bills should now be reinvested and suggested "Passbook Savings Account" as the best interest rate (5%) at this time. It was noted that cash would be readily available if needed under this plan. Lee asked if two year investments were now available at 6%. Lee moved for the Treasurer to be authorized to reinvest the $25 , 000 at the best market available , after checking his suggestion. Jensen seconded , motion carried . The meeting was recessed to attend a demonstration of "Scientific c's Physical Fitness Assessment and Evaluation" sponsored by the YMCA and presented by Mike Bryant and Jerry Harden. Doctor Robert Shapard of Auburn was also present. Lieutenant Berg volunteered to take the test performing measured amounts of exercise on a bicycle ergometer. The value of the results of the tests and the costs of same were explained by Mr. Harden. The charge was determined to be $15 for each complete test given . The meeting was then reconvened at 11 :45 a.m., Bridge moved to have the tests made for the firemen, to be paid for from Firemen ' s Relief and Pension Funds , Berg seconded . Lee noted that a definite plan should be followed to make the tests and the results meaningful . He suggested that consideration could also be given to buying the equipment at some future time and having a trained person to operate it. Lee moved to amend the motion to approve ,` the tests on the condition that a proper exercise program be established '. s<< ' for those who were determined to need it, and for it to be made mandatory. It was pointed out that the board has the power to make the program mandatory. Jensen seconded the amendment. Mayor Hogan noted that she had personal knowledge of this program and explained that the exercise portion is different for each individual . Amend- ment carried, original motion carried . The Police Chief expressed interest in having such tests for the Police Officers and it was i . generally agreed that all employees would benefit from such a test.
