August 6, 1997
Boardmembers Present: Mary Berg, Sam Grubbs, Brenda Jacober
others Present: Laurie Murray
Boardmember Berg called the meeting to order at 4 : 00 p.m.
Approval of Minutes. Grubbs moved to approve the minutes of the
June 4, 1997 meeting. Jacober seconded and the motion carried.
Approval of Financial Transactions. Murray explained the April
and May financial transactions. Grubbs moved to accept them.
Berg seconded and the motion carried. Murray noted that
transactions for June and July will be available at the September
meeting.
Fire Insurance Premium. Murray read a memo from John Hillman
explaining that the fire insurance premium tax decreased in 1997
because the total State taxes have decreased from 1995 by
$488 , 127 , and that the 1996 taxes were abnormally high due to the
previous year's fires at Leavenworth and Chelan. Also, the
City' s fire force as a percentage of the entire State' s has also
decreased. The distribution is based on the total taxes
collected and distributed based on the number of firefighters in
each city. In 1996 Kent' s percentage was 3 . 16% and in 1997 the
percentage was 3 . 13%. 3 . 16% of the total decrease in the total
taxes collected equals a decrease in revenue of approximately
$15, 600 which correlates with the reduction in Kent's share of
the taxes in 1997 .
Distribution of Agendas. Jacober noted that this issue was
discussed at the meeting in June, and that members had been
contacted as to whether they wish to receive agendas of Board
meetings. She noted that six people wish to receive agendas.
Grubbs moved to send agendas to those who requested them.
Jacober seconded and the motion carried.
Chancre of Meeting Time. It was noted that Boardmember Johnson
can no longer attend meetings at 4 : 00 o'clock. After discussion,
Grubbs moved that the Firemen' s Relief & Pension Board meetings
be held at 9 : 00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. Berg
seconded and the motion carried.
Adjournment. Grubbs moved to adjourn at 4: 15 p.m. , Jacober
seconded and the motion carried.
