Firemen' s Relief & Pension Board
Special Meeting
April 1G, 2002
Boardmembers Present : Al Bond, Sam Grubbs, Gene Grenstad,
Mayor White, Brenda Jacober
Others Present : John Hillman, Brigitte Hoopes
The Mayor called the special meeting to order at 3 : 30 p .m.
Comparison of Benefit Rates for April 1, 2002 . Hoopes
distributed copies of the calculations and noted that they
are based on the old salary schedule because there is no
new contract at this time . She explained the calculations
and added that the rates will have to be redone when the
new contract is approved. She pointed out that Sidney
Mickleson is due a small amount per pay period and asked
whether a lump payment for April , May and June should be
issued. Grubbs moved to pay Mickleson for April , May and
June in a lump sum. Bond seconded and the motion carried.
Bond moved to approve the benefit rates as presented.
Grubbs seconded and the motion carried. It was noted that
that the change will be reflected on the checks which will
be distributed on April 20th.
CPI Percentage for July 1, 2002 . Hoopes distributed copies
of the calculation of the CPI percent change for July 1,
2002 , and explained how she arrived at the 3 . 12% figure .
Grubbs moved to accept the CPI percentage at 3 . 12 . Bond
seconded and the motion carried.
Meeting Schedule Change. Jacober noted that the State
requirement for monthly meetings was recently changed, and
the Board can now meet quarterly. She said the Law
Department has suggested changing the policy to read: "The
Board shall regularly meet on a quarterly basis at City
Hall, subject to the availability of a quorum, with the
time and date determined by the Board. Special meetings
may be called by the Chair or by a vote of the Board, as
necessary. " After a brief discussion, it was determined
that the next regular meeting will be in July and that the

Board will hold a special meeting if the contract is signed
before then. Grubbs moved to change the policy to follow
state guidelines to meet quarterly, starting with the next
regular meeting in July. Bond seconded and the motion
carried.
Adjournment. At 3 : 50 p.m. , Grubbs moved to adjourn. Bond
seconded and the motion carried.
