KENT Firemen's Relief & Pension Board
SPECIAL MEETING
April 25, 2006
Board Members Present: Suzette Cooke, Albert Bond, Brenda Jacober
Others Present: Bonnie Fell, Brigitte Hoopes
Mayor Cooke called the special meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. and noted that the
purpose of the meeting is to discuss benefit increases.
Comparison of Benefits. Hoopes distributed copies of the worksheet showing
the comparison between the cost of living adjustment (COLA) amount paid by
LEOFF as of April 1, 2006, and the amount the city would pay out of the
Firemen's Relief & Pension fund. After a brief explanation of the calculations by
Hoopes, Bond moved to accept the semi-monthly payment figures as shown on
the worksheet, effective April 1, 2006. Jacober seconded and the motion
carried.
CPI Percentage Increase. Hoopes distributed copies of the Consumer Price
Index increase calculations and explained how the 3.15 figure was determined.
It was clarified that this Board does not determine the percentage of increase,
but agrees to pay it's members the percentage set by the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, with a minimum of 2.00%. Bond moved to approve 3.15 as the CPI
percentage, effective July 1, 2006. Jacober seconded and the motion carried.
Adiournment. The meeting adjourned at 3:52 p.m.
