Firemen's Relief & Pension Board Minutes
October 7, 2014
Board Members present: Mayor Suzette Cooke, Councilmember Les Thomas, City
Clerk Ronald Moore, Sam Grubbs, Gene Grenstad
Others present: Finance Director Aaron BeMiller, Senior Accountant Daniel Leahy,
Senior Financial Analyst Susanne Shaw
Mayor Cooke called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
Minutes of July 1, 2014. Sam Grubbs moved to approve the minutes of July
1, 2014, as written, seconded by Gene Grenstad. Motion carried 4-0.
Financial Transactions for June,July, and August 2014. BeMiller
communicated that revenues have increased by $226,000 as compared to last year.
Board consensus was that a summary of each month should be reflected on the
report and that quarterly comparisons would be great.
BeMiller communicated that the general contribution revenue of $197,000 reflects
the fire premium receipts received from the state. He added that the fair market
value adjustment this year is $47,000 and it was $46,000 last year. He discussed
pension distributions and noted that they are higher due to salary increases.
Benefits, he noted, also increased by $19,000 as compared to the last eight months
of 2013.
Shaw communicated that the Regional Fire Authority (RFA) voted for salary
increases, so the pensions increased. It was communicated that the increases were
retroactive.
BeMiller continued and said that debt and financial services were increased because
of the actuarial study, which cost $8,325.
Thomas communicated that he wanted to see quarterly figures and the overview of
what happened in each of them.
Mayor Cooke communicated that the City has to generate monthly reports, but the
board would like to only have quarterly reports at the meetings.
Sam Grubbs moved to approve the financial reports for June, July, and
August 2014, seconded by Gene Grenstad. Motion carried 4-0.
Adiournment. The meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m.
