MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF OCTOBER 22, 1964
Tukwila City Hall
Meeting called to order at 8:06 p.m. by President Bob Wing, and a motion to
dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was un-
animously passed.
Treasurer Ken Weeks reported that there is a balance of $236.94 in the
treasury. He was directed to request from the participating cities and
King County the $200.00 each had committed from their 1964 budgets to the
operations of the Commission for the 1964-65 year.
It was announced that Mr. Ed Munro, Chairman King County Commissioners, has
appointed three new members per their minutes of the board on October 19,
1964. The new members are C. A. "Chet" Wheeler, Dave Mooney, and Don Martin.
President Bob Wing reviewed the purposes and organization of the Valley Reg-
ional Planning Commission. He then presented the objectives of the Commission
for the coming year. After discussion, Mr. Bicknell moved, and Mr. Hagestad
seconded, that the objectives be adopted. Motion passed.
President Bob Wing appointed three chairmen this time as follows:
Dick Bowen - Monitor Rail and Truck Freight Regulatory Activities
Affecting Valley Commerce.
Warren Gonnason - Monitor Flood Control and Drainage Planning in
Construction Activities Effecting Valley Develop-
ment.
John Fournier - Prepare a valley industrial development promotional
program.
Dick Bowen, Chairman Highways, Arterials, Streets Committee, reported on
recent activities as follows:
1. Progress on Longacres traffic problem.
2. Request for street lighting at Renton Junction.
3. City of Tukwila council voted to install street lighting consist-
ing of three mercury lights on the West Valley Highway south of
180th.
Vice President Noel Bicknell introduced two guests for the evening, Mr. John
J. Swan, Local Affairs Division, Department of Commerce and Economic Develop-
ment, and an associate, Mr. Einar Sivertsen. Mr. Swan then spoke to us con-

cerning the State of Washington Comprehensive Development Plan and its re-
lationship to the planning being done by municipalities or other sub-divisions
of government within the state. A local planning section has been in existence
within the Bepartment of Commerce and Economic Development for a number of
years and the state planning section was instituted in the fall of 1963. A
State Planning Advisory Committee has been appointed and the department is
presently developing population and economic statistics working closely with
the State Census Board, Highway Department, and other agencies.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:35 p.m.

The next meeting scheduled at Auburn City Hall, 6 p.m., Thursday, November 19,
a week early because of Thanksgiving. Pat Hogue, who has now been appointed
as chairman of the committee to review and study Major Streets and Highways
Plan as applicable to the valley area will moderate a panel discussion.
