and Minutes of the October 22nd meeting were read and approved.
Guests and new members were introduced: Holger A. Toftoy, replacing
Earl Barnes for the City of Renton; Jerry Herman, King County Planning
Commission representative who is supposed to be the permanent member
from now on; Norman Anderson, Kent, a possible new member for that
city.
Wells McCurdy announced that the meeting for December would be on
the 13th of December instead of the fourth Thursday because of Christmas,
and said meeting will be held at Kent at 8:00 P. M. Charles Baker will
be in charge of the next meeting.
Charles Baker reported on the meeting at Seattle Public Library,
October 26th on "City Suburbia Community or Chaos". This report
discussed the responsibilities and problems of mayors with relation
to the problem at hand. Mr. Baker's committee will meet a number
of times to discuss the report before it is presented to the Legislature.
The Secretary is to invite our Legislators to the next meeting to acquaiad
them with the aims and objectives of the Valley Industrial Commission.
The Secretary will compile an attendance record for each mayor for
review in replacing members who are not regularly attending. Noel
Bicknell was again selected to head the Legislative and Integral Planning
Committee. Mr. Bicknell reported on the Integral Planning Committee,
mentioning the fast growing area of the Northwest, particularly the Valley,
and the need for consolidated effort between city, county and an over all
planning commission. Money will be needed to bring this about. Members
of this group would represent all of the cities concerned with the possi-
bility of one paid member. Discussion of this paid coordinator followed
between Alex Thornton and Wells McCurdy.
Mr. McCurdy read an article from the Seattle Times which brought out
the lack of planning in Snohomish County. Mr. Herman, King County
Planning representative, discussed Snohomish County, the Auburn Plan,
King County School plans and the Evans Park proposal.
