VRPC OFFICE
NOVEMBER 5, 1968 -- 8:00 A.M.
Mr. Hall, commented the cities have given the VRPC their
enthusiastic support and now is the time to determine the
course to follow in hiring a Planning Consultant, or an
Executive Administrator, This should be done at this meeting
in order to be able to begin operation on a full time basis
on the 1st of January 1969.
Two charts were presented to the Executive Committee. One
chart was designed to show the over all functions of the
Executive Committee, and the functions of each officer. This
chart was approved by the Executive Committee and is to be
adopted immediately.
The second chart was to ascertain the duties of a part-time
Staff Advisor and a part-time Staff Assistant. Jan Klippert
felt it was more important to hire a part-time Executive
Secretary or Administrator than to hire a Planning Consultant
at this time. The VRPC needs someone to strengthen the or•gaa
ization at the present time. The member cities and King
County have offered their Planning Directors and techinical
assistance to the VRPC.- Mr. Klippert said the objective is
to get something started and follow through with it as follow:
1 . VRPC should establish organization
2. Increase number of people involved in the General
meetings
3. Develope support of VRPC through other organizations
a) Puget Sound Governmental Conference
b) King County
c) Dept of Economics and Community Affairs Agency
d) Association of Washington Cities
4, Establish better identification
Mr. Klippert moved a motion be made to prepare a job descrip-
tion for a part-time position of VRPC Coordinator, having a
balance between jobs needed in present administration. The
motion passed and this is to be presented at the next Executive
Committee Meeting (Tuesday Nov, 12), by Dave Van Hoose, Jan
Klippert, and Iry Iverson. This will be presented to Gene
Williams, Chairman of Personnel Committee at that time, after
Executive Committee approval.
Mr. Sammis, suggested the VRPC start working on some of the
base maps, in conjunction with each city. As these are
completed, VRPC will have something to work with, as well as
something to present to King County for further workings.
Mr. Van Hoose will meet with King County and Puget Sound
Governmental Confernnce, in order to obtain reports and studies
each have made. In this way, VRPC will not be duplicating
work already accomplished.
It was agreed to have all of the members from each city,
participate more in the organization. Speci6l Sub-committees
will be formed to include members for specific studies.
Mr. Van Hoose suggested a Legislative Committee be formed in
order to raise fund for the VRPC. Fund raising could be done
by asking participation of some of the large industries in the
Valley. A listing of possible prospects;is in preparation.
Mr. Iverson and Mr, Van Hoose are requested to outline proposed
Committee plans and names of suggested committee members at
the next Executive Committee Meeting. .
